Second Journal

In fifth grade, this week we worked on the first session of my innovation plan. It consisted on teaching the students the different recyclable materials that they could get in order to reuse them and make our final product. In the first activity, the students had to work in groups to play a game in which they had to put waste in a bin and recyclable materials in the other bin. This activity was really successful since they practice while learning the four materials they can reuse. Also, they were really engaged in the activity because there won points if they did it right.  In the end, they had to make their own recyclable bin in which they will collect all the materials that then will be used for our products. To do this task, in the previous class, six students were in charge of bringing a box, in that way we would have six boxes that students would paint; however, only three students brought the boxes. Thus, if students had brought the material for the class, what I would change from this class would be the number of students for a group, as they are a lot I have to make groups of 5 students maximum.
However, the class was really successful since all the students were interested in participating in all the tasks.
The classes I taught in third grades were about remembering the parts of the body and learning different meals. The objective in the class was that students wrote short sentences telling what they eat at different eating times. To do this, students watched a video about food at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. After that, they categorized the images of the food that they brought into breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And wrote sentences following the structure given by the teacher.
In these classes, the students were engaged because they like watching videos since in this way they learn more effectively. However, what I would change from these classes could be that students had drawn their own meals for each eating time, also I would have made them work in groups or pairs since this is the emphasis in my practicum, the cooperative learning. Also, it would be good if the students had spoken in English a little more since the focus in these classes was only writing.
